Jatiluwih the Rice Terrace Bali: Place with a UNESCO Recognized Rice Field Irrigation System

Jatiluwih is one of the famous rice terraces in Bali, and the biggest one among the others with the total area of the rice terrace is around 600 hectare. Located in around 7000 above the sea level, you will never get too hot in Jatiluwih because the average temperature here is 20Celsius. For the locals, it could be a very cool place, but for the foreigners, it is a perfect temperature to chill and relax while enjoying the biggest rice terrace in Bali while having lunch or enjoying the view from our hotel or villa room.

Located in Penebel District, Tabanan Regency, it takes more than 1 hours from Denpasar to reach Jatiluwih. The road that you take to this rice terrace is the same as you take to go to Bedugul. Many people visit Jatiluwih before they continue to Bedugul.

When you come to Jatiluwih, after paying for the ticket you will be welcome with a clean river near the village gate. For your information, from the ticket locket, you still need to take your vehicle for a few kilometers to see the main part of the rice terraces. But you can see some part of the rice terrace from the main road.

There is also a point where you can take a rest and enjoy the view of Jatiluwih Rice Terrace, but the main spot is where you can find several restaurants and villas across the Rice Terrace. Here, you can a way to hike around or cycling around Jatiluwih Rice Terrace, or simply you can enjoy your food in any restaurants that offer you any kind of foods with the view of the rice terrace.

The water system in Jatiluwih also still use the traditional watering system called subak. By the beauty it has, the cultures and stories behind the place, Jatiluwih has been accepted as the world heritage by UNESCO since 2012. You will find a lot of temples also around Jatiluwih Rice Terrace since it was believed by the people that there is a mythical creature buried in Jatiluwih. Jatiluwih literally means “sacred amulet”. So, a lot of people until the priest come here to pray and ask for a blessing from God.

If you come between February until April, you will find the green rice fields because the paddy rice just begins to grow, and if you come between June-July, you will see the golden yellow rice fields that are ready to be harvested. If you are looking for a place that is clean from pollution, cool temperature, perfect to chill and relax and it is not a beach, Jatiluwih is the place you are looking for.
