Before you enter the houses of residents in Penglipuran Village, you will see a row of gates that are has the same shape and only fit into one adult in turn. Balinese call this as "angkul-angkul".

The name of Penglipuran Village comes from two words which are "Pengeling" and "Pura" means remembering the holy place (the ancestors). Initially, the locals who live in Penglipuran is coming from Bayung Gede Village, Kintamani. They migrated to Kubu Bayung Village (now Penglipuran village) and finally settled by always maintaining the nobility of their cultural philosophy.

Due to the natural atmosphere that is still very beautiful, of course, visitors will be very at home here. Not only their clean environment, but people here are also very friendly. In addition, tourists can also visit several other interesting places here to upholding harmony and togetherness among the citizens, the Penglipuran village also upholds the philosophy of Tri Hita Karana, which is a philosophy that always maintains harmony in relations between humans, humans to the environment, and humans with God.

No wonder, if the village architecture is very thick with the Balinese culture atmosphere and Hinduism that is still well guarded by the locals. The buildings also placed consistently from time to the time. For example, the sacred building must always be located upstream, housing in the middle, while the business field is on the edge or downstream.

The village is located at an altitude of 700 meters above sea level which can be visited every day. But the best time to visit is just before the Galungan ceremony or after Galungan Day. Because on that day you can see the line of Penjor (a long bamboo tree whose ends are decorated and stand in front of the house) that decorates each of the houses in Penglipuran village. You can also see Balinese locals dressed in Balinese customs and bring Banten (offerings) to go to the temple
