Brahma Vihara Arama: Buddhist Temple with a Blend of Balinese Architecture

If you going to Banjar Hot Spring, don't forget to stop by in this Great Monastery! It's Brahma Vihara Arama Buddhist Monastery is the perfect place for the serene Bali Buddhist Temple in Bali.

Located in the hilly area of Tehege Village, Banjar Village, Buleleng. It's about 22 km west of Singaraja city. Because of its location in a hilly area, Brahma Vihara Arama has a quiet and peaceful atmosphere and is perfect as a spiritual area. But, if you come from Ubud it might take two hours driving away to this Bali Buddhist Temple. Perched on a hillside, the Temple and Brahmavira Arama Buddhist Monastery stand gracefully overlooking the sea against a backdrop of lush green hills.

Brahma Vihara Arama is a Bali Buddhist Temple that was built at the end of the 20th century Christian precisely in 1960 and after 1970. It was officially opened in 1973. The area has been expanded to be able to build a Borobudur Miniature located in the south of the Brahma Vihara Arama. Basically, there are 5 building complexes at Brahma Vihara Arama which are the first is Upastha Gara located on the hill to the west, it’s a comfortable and quiet place. On the wall, there is a relief of the birth of the Buddha and in the middle, there is a Buddha statue in the condition of reaching heaven.

In religious and ritual activities, this space functioned as a stabilizing candidate for monks, a stage which stated to take part in the next training. In this room, the monk took their oath. The second is the Dharmasala located to the east, the Dharmasala room is a kind of room for lecturing. This room is also a place to deliver sermons and other spiritual activities. The third is the Stupa which is a giant bell-like building located in the North West corner.

The walls are made of concrete, carved in very interesting reliefs. In the Stupa there are many Buddhist holy objects that are kept bright and fire resistant. Fourth is the Body Tree located in the northwest corner, there is a large body decorated with relief. This place is the victory of the Buddha when it reaches eternal perfection. In this place, visitors usually do meditation right there. And the last one is Kuti which is the chambers of residence for monks and students who are studying and a place to practice monks.

If we roam in all corners of the room and park we can find many Buddha statues. Among the two are the beautiful Statue of Parinirwana and Buddha. Both were made of bronze which was coated with gold gifts from Thailand and Sri Lanka in 1977. This statue was in a different room. The Parinirwana Buddha statue visualizes the Buddha reaching heaven or the Hindu term Moksa (eternity).
