Batuan Temple: Visit a Beautiful Temple in the Largest Art Village in Bali

Batuan Temple in Sukawati Gianyar Bali has a very interesting beauty to visit. It's a must visit if you come to Bali. Batuan temple is a local Balinese Hindu temple guarded by local residents of the Batuan village. This temple is very beautifully designed, full of Balinese ornaments and the roof of the temple building made of black-colored palm tree fibers.

Strategically located next to the main road from Denpasar to Ubud.  The location of the temple on the roadside makes Batuan Temple very easy to find. For more than a thousand years, Batuan has become a village of artists and craftsmen, old legends and mysterious stories. Batuan temple is one of the oldest temples in Bali, where the temple is located in the Batuan village, Sukawati Gianyar. This temple has been built for a long time, wherein 1022 AD, where this temple was part of Tri Kahyangan in a Pakraman village in Bali.

The concept of this village was actually introduced by Mpu Kuturan who came to Bali in 1001 AD, where the concept was aimed at uniting the community groups in Bali at that time in order to worship God in the form of the gods Brahma, Wisnu, and Shiva. The name "Batuan" or "Baturan" mentioned here encourages villagers to joke about being "tough like a rock" or "eating rocks" because Batuan means "stone" in Balinese. But that might refer to the ancient megalithic tradition in which the stone stand functioned as a meeting place and ceremonial place for the worship. Because the Batuan temple became the center from which Buddhist and brahmin priests spread to the main court centers in southern Bali, this village had a dominant number of brahmans.
