Menjangan Island Bali: Deer Island with Charming Sea

If you are looking for a quiet place where you can enjoy the beach and the underwater view peacefully, then Menjangan Island is a must for you to visit. This tiny island is very famous for its beautiful underwater view and natural environment. The name of Menjangan is taken from the animals called Menjangan, kind of deer, which live here freely. Except for the tourists that visit this island, you will not see any other human living in Menjangan Island. Basically, this island is uninhabited. People come here as tourists or the locals will visit it for praying in some temples on this island.

Menjangan Island is separated with Bali Island, but still part of it. It is part of Taman Nasional Bali Barat or West Bali National Park that located in two different regencies, Buleleng and Jembrana Regency. It is only about 2 km from Gilimanuk Port, but from the South Bali, it can take about 3 hours to get to West Bali National Park area. To get to Menjangan Island, you have to go to Lalang Port and take the fast boat. Or some people also come from Banyuwangi and it takes only 1 hour from Ketapang Port. The beauty of the underwater view on this island is one of the prettiest together with Amed Beach and Tulamben in Karangasem, East Bali.

When you are in Menjangan, you will be welcomed with the white sand and calm ocean. The combination of blue and turquoise clear water is very enjoyable. You can also enjoy the natural life of Menjangan Island, endemic animals look like deer. The name of the island is taken from them because of no human living on this island, except the Menjangan (deer). The basic things you can do on this island is not only sunbathing and swimming on the beach. Snorkeling or diving is a must thing to do on this island. Being a part of the West Bali National Park makes the underwater life on this island is being taken care well.

There are three famous spots in this island to snorkeling, Eel Gardens, Secret Bay and Anchor Wreck. To get to these places, you can rent a boat from the locals, and bargain for the perfect price for both of you. The common fish you can find here are Batfish, Angelfish, Jackfish, Mandarine fish, Turtles and if you are lucky, you probably will meet sharks.

There is a rule here in Menjangan Island that you have to carry your own trash to be brought back to Bali Island. Since that no one lives there, no one will take care of the trash. There is a high possibility that the deer will eat your trash and poison themselves.
